The Green Key Initiative

Green Key is the largest global eco-label awarded to more than 2,900 tourism providers in 57 countries worldwide. From boutique hotels with fine dining, to B&B's, campsites and attractions, Green Key offers an environmentally sustainable choice when planning holidays, excursions or business trips. Green Key Wales launched in April 2015 and offers a growing collection of the country's most environmentally sustainable destinations, ensuring that wherever you are in Wales, you can make the best choice for the environment, as well as discovering some of the finest hospitality providers in the country.

Green Key is run by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and managed in Wales by the environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, who also manage the Blue Flag and Eco Schools programmes.

Become Green Key accredited

Green Key is an eco-accreditation which guides businesses towards the best environmental choices to suit their individual business needs.

Travellers and tourists are increasingly aware of the importance of supporting socially responsible and environmentally sustainable businesses, with 72% of visitors in Wales rating environmental factors important in choosing their holiday destination*. As such, an increasing number of Welsh hospitality providers are making changes within their business to appeal to this emerging market as well as making significant commercial savings.

Green Key Wales offers a flexible approach to implementing environmentally sustainable changes, making Green Key accreditation accessible whatever the business size. And as a respected eco-label in 47 countries worldwide, it offers Welsh hospitality providers a presence within the international hospitality market. The Green Key criteria and explanatory notes for hotels and hostels have received 'GSTC-recognition' status.

Developed specifically for the hospitality industry, Green Key accommodates a range of hospitality service providers.
