Visited for dinner on a Friday night, we had not booked and the place was very busy however the staff were able to rally around to accommodate us and even moved us into the restaurant when a table became available.

The service we received was fantastic, the menu is excellent, great choice and reasonably priced.

Food was superb, I had the lamb and my husband had steak, Excellently cooked and really well presented.

We will most certainly be visiting again and highly recommend!

A real gem of a place

I looked online for somewhere to eat while staying in the area and as a vegan came up with brit pub. Upon arrival first impressions were very good. The place was really lovely inside and staff were very friendly. The menu was outstanding and the food lived up to expectation. Probably the best meal I've had in a while. I was travelling with my Nephew who is a chef and even he was impressed with the menue and the quality of food which is also really good value for money. I was also shown around as the pub does accommodation so will defiantly be staying here next time I visit.

Lovely pub, super food and staff.

Wonderful décor, staff and food. We popped in here recently before going to see a show in Port Talbot, we were pleasantly surprised the food was outstanding for a pub and proved good value. The staff were very helpful as one of us wanted Gluten free, they were most obliging. We are not locals, but if we ever find ourselves in the area again we'll surely pop in for more food.

The Brit Pub

Set in the beauty of the Afan Valley, this historic pub built in 1845 and originally named The Britannia Inn has recently been renovated and re-named "The Brit" as this is how it has always been locally known. The pub has been given a make-over that respects the age of the building and makes the most of it's many beautiful features. With stone walls and a beautiful bar that was fashioned out of the original doors and floorboards taken from upstairs during the renovation. The look is a very eclectic mix, with old artifacts, sitting alongside unusual artwork and quirky items. "Our love for interior design and a desire to create a cosy welcoming space for our customers was the driving force behind the look of The Brit". Described as a pub for all seasons this certainly true, sitting alongside the river Afan with a delightful beer garden perfect for Summer months and a cosy log burning fire for the Winter months.

The Bar

We are primarily a real ale pub and serve a selection of 5 real ale's. The old classic Speckled Hen is on constantly and we have guest ales, cider and perry on the other pumps. We also have Coors Light Lager, Stowford Press and Guinness on tap. A great selection of spirits including a special Gin Menu with a constantly changing selection of exclusive and unusual gins. As well as a good selection of wines from around the world which are perfect to accompany our selection of food.

The Food

Lunch 12-3pm

Evening menu 6-9pm

Sunday Lunches 12-3.30pm

All of the food at The Brit is freshly prepared and cooked on the premises by our chefs. We are very proud of the fact we make everything here, from starters, to mains and desserts. We use fresh, local and seasonal produce. Offering a varied selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. The food at The Brit we would describe as sitting somewhere between pub grub and fine dining. Hearty and a little special but with a few old classic favourites. Sunday lunches are also a firm favourite here with lots of fresh vegetables, melt in your mouth meats and delicious Welsh gravy.

Vegetarian/Vegan

We also have an exclusive offering of home made vegetarian and vegan options. Some items are subject to pre-order as we would need time to prepare but there will be at least 2 vegan starters and mains available at all times. We also offer a vegan nut roast for Sunday lunch. Our menus can be found on our website.

Afternoon High Tea

Available between 3-6pm Tues to Saturday. High Teas must be pre-ordered as everything is freshly home made. We have a delicious selection of sandwiches, home made desserts, scones fresh from the oven and bottomless tea, all served on beautiful vintage china. There are also a selection of cocktails available that can be served in vintage tea pots, perfect if you have an occasion to celebrate. Please find more details on our website.

Accommodation

Bunk rooms are available upstairs. There are 3 rooms with 4 bunks in each. The rustic and cosy rooms have exposed stone walls and sturdy wooden bunk beds built into the walls. There are some fantastic walking and cycle routes locally which makes The Brit an ideal place to stay. We have secure bike stowage and a drying room for any wet gear.
